I’ve given you the characterization of John. Now, in the 13^th verse, Jesus is sent to John the Baptist. There’s no mention in scripture that John and Jesus spent time together. But, we do know that they were cousins. I would find it improbable that they didn’t know each other, especially when you look at Luke 1, when Elizabeth, John’s mother, meets Mary. Mary had found out from the angel Gabriel that she’s going to be pregnant, and she comes to visit Elizabeth. At the very salutation, John the Baptist, who’s 6 months in his mother’s womb, leaps in her belly and gets filled with the Holy Ghost!

Here we have two men on a collision course. Two men destined to transform the world. Two men. I believe they stayed in touch because of the unique position of having sons who would bring a dramatic revival to Israel. Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan River. He traveled 24 miles. People are leaving the city and traveling great distances, just to get dunked in a dirty river. But, it’s not about the cleanness of the Jordan. It’s about this man who’s filled with the Holy Ghost, and dressed in camel hair and a leather belt. When you come in contact with Him, and he puts you in this Jordan River, something in your life gets transformed.

So, Jesus travels 24 miles, and he couldn’t take an Uber or get a Lyft… I don’t know if he even had a donkey or if he walked 24 miles. I don’t know how long it took, but when you travel 24 miles to see somebody… There’s a level of expectation. You’re expecting God to show up. Do you show up with an expectation that God is going to do something? God is going to show up!
